Fire Restrictions Enacted on Navajo Nation

Associated Press

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. — The Navajo Nation is enacting fire restrictions on the reservation because of low precipitation, high wind and low humidity.
Navajo President Joe Shirley Jr. signed an executive order last week restricting all open fires in the Navajo forest and woodlands, except for those in developed recreational areas.
Selena Manychildren, a spokeswoman for the tribe's Department of Emergency Management, says conditions are ripe for a fire and people need to be careful.
    Smoking and fireworks are prohibited.
Burn permits are required for all traditional ceremonies that require the use of fire.
