Carlsbad Shooting Suspect Pleads Not Guilty

      CARLSBAD — A judge has entered a plea of not guilty on behalf of a man who is charged with murder for the shooting death of a 29-year-old Carlsbad man.
    Judge Henry Castaneda entered the plea Tuesday and then ordered 28-year-old Michael Carl Follette Junior held on a one-million-dollar, cash-only bond.
    Follette is charged with first-degree murder for the shooting death Sunday of 29-year-old Monte Wade Hamby.
    Court records show a witness told investigators that Follette's girlfriend slapped Hamby just before the shooting.
    The records state Follette then shot Hamby in the chest with a sawed-off shotgun.
    Follette turned himself in to police a day after the shooting.
