N.M. Joins 'Fulldome' Research

Associated Press
A research partnership in New Mexico will work on computer problems to make better "fulldomes" — such as planetariums.
The partnership has received $597,220 from the National Science Foundation's Partnerships for Innovation program.
The idea is to develop computer hardware and software to improve dome technology.
That would allow such fulldomes as planetariums to be used interactively to help people visualize, simulate or understand information ranging from educational and artistic material to scientific data and complex systems.
The consortium includes two University of New Mexico labs — the advanced graphics lab in the School of Engineering and its multidisciplinary ARTS lab — plus the Instititute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe and the Santa Fe Complex.
