Gallup's Bishop Pelotte Resigns

Associated Press
VATICAN CITY — The Vatican says the pope has accepted the resignation of a New Mexico bishop who has been recovering from head injuries suffered in an apparent fall at his home in July.
Bishop Donald Pelotte of Gallup has been on a medical leave of absence.
The Vatican announcement today said Pope Benedict XVI had accepted Pelotte's request to resign as Gallup bishop but did not elaborate.
Despite speculation that the 63-year-old Pelotte might have been assaulted, he and diocese officials have said he was injured when he fell down the stairs.
