Gila Forest To Replace Flood-Damaged Bridge

Associated Press
GLENWOOD — The Gila National Forest is closing part of a trail while it replaces a wooden bridge on Whitewater Canyon's Catwalk National Recreation Trail that was damaged by flooding last year.
The work, beginning Monday, will mean the temporary closure of Whitewater Canyon and the Catwalk National Recreation Trail 207 between the one-half and three-quarter mile markers.
The section will remain closed until bridge construction is finished about April 12.
Forest officials said the Whitewater picnic area and the first half-mile of the Catwalk Recreation Trail will remain open during the project.
They also said visitors who want to explore Whitewater Canyon above the closed section can gain access from the steep 2.4-mile-long Gold Dust Trail 41.
