Alamogordo Woman Guilty in Daughter-in-Law's Death

Associated Press
ALAMOGORDO — An Alamogordo woman has been convicted of first-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of her daughter-in-law last year.
Jurors on Friday found 50-year-old Graciela Guerra guilty in the May 13, 2008, death of Brenda Guerra, whose body was found in the room of an Alamogordo motel.
She had traveled from San Antonio, Texas, the day before for a divorce proceeding.
Graciela Guerra's public defender said in closing arguments that she did not intend to kill her daughter-in-law when she went to the motel, but that the two women apparently fought.
Chief Deputy District Attorney RoxeAnne Esquibel told jurors Graciela Guerra stabbed Brenda Guerra within a couple of minutes of arriving at the motel room.
