UPDATED: New Mexico Firefighters Battle Grass Fires

ROSWELL — Firefighters are battling two wildfires that have charred more than 58,000 acres in southern New Mexico.
State Forestry spokesman Dan Ware said the larger fire, the Pasco Fire south of Lordsburg, has now burned 40,000 acres of grass and brush on a remote piece of private land.
Ware said a ranch home is threatened and has been evacuated.
High winds and hot temperatures that hampered efforts to battle the fire Wednesday were in the forecast again Thursday.
Officials ordered more resources for the 18,000-acre Cato Fire burning grass and mesquite in a rugged area east of Roswell.
That fire is 60 percent contained, but six structures remained threatened.
