Former Dona Ana County Jail Guards Indicted for Gunplay

Associated Press
LAS CRUCES — Indictments have been filed against two former Dona Ana County Detention Center guards accused of drinking and driving around the Las Cruces east mesa and firing weapons from their vehicle.
A Dona Ana County grand jury has indicted 26-year-old Heriberto Cardoza and 20-year-old Michael Guerra on charges of shooting at or from a motor vehicle, conspiracy and negligent use of a deadly weapon.
They are accused of firing a handgun at stop signs and shooting an assault rifle into the air on March 7.
Authorities have dismissed charges against a third ex-guard, 28-year-old Felipe Hernandez.
All three were February graduates of the detention center academy.
County spokesman Jess Williams says they were fired after the alleged incident.
