Hobbs Residents Upset by Parole Office Near School

Associated Press
HOBBS — Hobbs residents say it's a bad idea to build a juvenile parole and probation office near an elementary school.
Petitions have been circulating in the southeastern New Mexico city to stop construction of the Children, Youth and Families Department office.
All four Lea County legislators sent letters of concern to the state agency.
Stone Elementary Principal Dawni Nelson said parents have been calling the school over concerns for their children's safety.
A spokeswoman for the state agency, Romaine Serna, said Children, Youth and Families has entered into a contract with a builder and will honor that obligation.
She said the juvenile probation office will be only one of several offices located in the building.
