Chimayo Man Dies in House Fire

Associated Press
CHIMAYO — State authorities are investigating a house fire in the Chimayo area that killed a 78-year-old man.
The state Department of Public Safety said the body of Vicente Martinez was found in the home after volunteer firefighters from La Puebla and Chimayo doused the flames Tuesday. Martinez's body was sent to Albuquerque for an autopsy.
State Fire Marshal Dan Wright reported the cause of the fire was due to a poorly constructed box wood heater that was improperly installed.
Authorities said the case would remain open until the Office of the Medical Investigator rules on Martinez's death.
