A Curry County Jailer Takes Violent Jail Inmate To Lunch
Associated Press
CLOVIS — Officials say a detention officer in eastern New Mexico is under investigation after he took an inmate who had tried a violent escape outside the jail for lunch.
Jail administrator Keith Norwood said he stumbled onto the officer and two inmates eating their jail-prepared lunches outside the Curry County detention center in Clovis earlier this week.
One of the inmates was Rico Sena, one of four prisoners who went on an armed rampage in February during an unsuccessful escape attempt.
Norwood said he was "blown away" by what he found and dealt with it immediately.
The jailer wasn't identified and remains on the job while an administrative investigation proceeds.
Norwood fired another jailer this week for mistakenly releasing an inmate.
