Former Dona Ana County Man Pleads No Contest to Tax Charges

Associated Press
LAS CRUCES — A former Dona Ana County resident has pleaded no contest to felony fraud and tax evasion charges after being deported from Kuwait.
Richard Gene Guy entered his pleas Friday before District Court Judge Douglas Driggers.
He was indicted in March 2005 on 17 fraud and state tax evasion counts relating to a construction company he ran in Dona Ana County in 2002 and 2003.
Under a plea agreement, he faces up to 55 years in prison and $75,000 in fines.
The U.S. Marshals Service says Guy left the U.S. in 2005 to work in Iraq. He could not be located for several months until November 2006, when he surfaced in Kuwait. That government expelled him for immigration violations last July, and deputy U.S. marshals from New Mexico escorted him back.
