Las Cruces Man Sentenced for Fatal Shooting
Associated Press
LAS CRUCES A Las Cruces man has been sentenced to 31-and-a-half years in prison for fatally shooting a Chamberino man.
State District Judge Doug Driggers sentenced 29-year-old Kenneth Sanchez on Monday.
Sanchez pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and two other charges in November in a deal with prosecutors.
Court records say 24-year-old Eugene Marquez was killed March 26, 2007, after arguing with Sanchez outside a Las Cruces home where Sanchez had been staying.
The Las Cruces Sun-News reports the shooting occurred after a birthday party for Marquez's son, whose mother also was staying at the home.
