FORT WAYNE, Ind. A woman suspected in the stabbing death of an Indiana college student from New Mexico is being held without bond on charges of murder and auto theft, officials said today.
Tina Loraine Morris, 36, of Fort Wayne, has a court appearance set for Friday, said Allen County Sheriff's Department spokesman Steve Stone. No attorney was listed for Morris, who was being held in the Allen County jail, he said.
Morris is charged with killing 22-year-old Liette N. Martinez of Las Cruces. A roommate found Martinez's body in her dorm room Friday on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne.
Indianapolis police detained Morris on Saturday after Fort Wayne police aired a bulletin among law enforcement agencies saying they wanted to question Morris, who was driving Martinez's car.
Police declined to say if Martinez and Morris knew each other.
Gabriel Martinez said his daughter was studying graphic arts in Fort Wayne as part of an exchange program between IPFW and New Mexico State University.
"It's unbelievable, unrealistic," he told The Journal Gazette. "Everybody is shocked."
On her MySpace page, Martinez wrote, "I love movies, music and dancing. I like to ride on the back of motorcycles."
Gabriel Martinez said his daughter's body would be returned to New Mexico for burial later this week.
