ABQ Officials Say Mentally Disabled Were Locked Up

Associated Press
Albuquerque officials say employees at a group home for the mentally challenged were locking their patients in small rooms to prevent them from escaping.
Several mentally disabled people live in the home.
After a resident called an ambulance last week, paramedics noticed the house was completely locked down, inside and out.
The Safe City Strike Force entered with a search warrant and found numerous fire code violations, including dead bolt locked doors on the inside, bars on windows, and numerous locks on external doors.
Officials say it could have been impossible to escape in an emergency.
No one at the house wanted to comment.
According to a search warrant, the place is managed by Opti Health Incorporated.
City officials say the company operates four group homes in Albuquerque.
