Charge Against Luna County Commissioner Dropped

Associated Press
DEMING — A magistrate has dismissed a criminal complaint against Luna County Commissioner Becky Allen Gilmore that accused her of unlawful interest in a public contract.
Defense attorney Marc Lilley successfully argued that the state charged Gilmore under a statute that wasn't applicable to a county employee.
An affidavit filed with the March 12 complaint says Mimbres Valley Abstract and Title wrote a check for more than $4,000 last August to Allen Realty for Gilmore's commission as a buyer's agent.
Gilmore owns the company and called it a normal real estate transaction. She had no comment Friday after the charge was dropped.
District attorney's investigator Arnold Chavez testified he found no record of then-County Manager Scott Vinson authorizing Gilmore to act as a buyer's agent.
