Rail Runner Under New Taxing District

Associated Press
A new taxing district is providing funding to the New Mexico Rail Runner Express.
A gross receipts tax district in Sandoval, Bernalillo and Valencia counties went into effect Wednesday, the first day of the state's new fiscal year.
The tax district funds the rail service itself and new connections between train stations, neighborhoods and employers.
Management of the Rail Runner has been handed over from the Mid-Region Council of Governments to a new group.
Under the New Mexico Department of Transportation, Rio Metro will primarily focus on the Rail Runner.
Transportation officials said fares and schedules remain the same on the train service, which stops in Belen, Los Lunas, Isleta Pueblo, Albuquerque, Bernalillo, Sandoval County and Santa Fe.
