NMSU Regents, Students Agree to Limit Tuition, Fee Increases

Associated Press

LAS CRUCES — New Mexico State University's Board of Regents approved an agreement with student leadership to limit tuition and fee increases to 6 percent per year or less from 2009 to 2014.
"It is important for the budgetary planning of both our students and the university to have a multiyear plan for tuition rates,'' said Jennifer Taylor, senior vice president for Business and Finance.
The tuition agreement between the Regents and Associated Students of New Mexico State University gives students a voice in tuition decisions, said student association President Marisa Ortega.
The agreement covers tuition and fees for full-time students. It also calls for the university to aggressively seek grant and loan funds to assist students and parents in meeting increasing educational costs.
Starting this month, tuition and fees for resident full-time students at the school's main branch in Las Cruces will be $2,379 a semester. Housing rates are going up 3 percent and meal plans will increase by 4.5 percent.
