Flora Vista Man Sentenced to Prison

Associated Press
AZTEC — A Flora Vista man accused of fatally shooting his wife in the back of the head has been sentenced to nine years in prison.
State District Judge Thomas Hynes sentenced 61-year-old Donald Phares on Monday after Phares pleaded no contest to a charge of second-degree murder.
Phares entered the plea in a deal with prosecutors, who dropped a charge of tampering with evidence.
Authorities say 58-year-old Shan Phares was killed with a .22-caliber gun last Oct. 13 while she prepared breakfast in their home.
