Arizona Patrol Car Halts Pilot's Successful Takeoff

Associated Press
POLACCA, Ariz. — A pilot thought he was good to go after making a precautionary landing to refill the oil in his plane's engine on a northeastern Arizona highway.
But as he was taking off Friday morning, the plane struck a patrol car and the Cessna flipped upside down.
The Federal Aviation Administration said the pilot was OK but the plane wasn't.
The pilot was en route to Taos, N.M., from Seligman, Ariz. when the plane lost oil pressure. He landed on State Route 264, about five miles west of Polacca on the Hopi reservation to service the engine.
    Tribal police cleared the highway.
Soon after takeoff, pilot James Ivy veered to the right, striking the patrol car.
The FAA said Ivy will remove the plane from the roadside.
