Sierra County Artist Working on D.C. Project

Associated Press
HILLSBORO — Sierra County artist David Farrell has been commissioned to create a series of paintings of a colorful straw-bale cottage currently sitting near the National Mall and U.S. Capitol.
The so-called "eco-house" was created by New Mexico-based Builders Without Borders as part of a 2008 sustainability exposition at the U.S. Botanic Garden. The exhibit closed in October but the straw-bale home remains open until February.
Farrell plans to create four paintings over several days to commemorate Barack Obama's inauguration ceremony. The exhibit demonstrates passive solar design and how traditional building materials can be used to create durable, energy-saving dwellings.
