Fox Tests Positive for Rabies in Grant Country

Associated Press
SILVER CITY — Rabies has been confirmed in a fox from Grant County that had been trying to enter a kennel containing three dogs, state authorities said.
The dogs killed the fox, and the owner sent the body to a state lab in Santa Fe for testing because of the animal's unusual behavior. The test results came back positive Wednesday.
The lab confirmed that all foxes it received from the Glenwood area in the last few months, a dog, a fox and a bobcat all have tested positive for rabies. All the animals were from Grant County.
Paul Wilmeth, a Silver City veterinarian, recommended that pet owners whose animals had received their first one-year rabies vaccination should get their animals revaccinated.
