Lincoln National Forest Extends Fire Restrictions

Associated Press

ALAMOGORDO — The Lincoln National Forest has extended fire restrictions throughout the southern New Mexico forest.
The forest put Stage 2 fire restrictions into effect late last month, but exempted some campgrounds and picnic areas.
    Those areas are now included.
Stage 2 restrictions ban smoking outdoors and prohibit campfires and charcoal, broiler, coal or wood stove fires.
People aren't allowed to park or drive a motor vehicle off forest system roads, except for parking overnight at developed campgrounds or trailheads or stopping in an area within 10 feet of the roadway that's devoid of vegetation.
They also put limits on chainsaws and ban welding torches or other torches with open flames.
