Two Arrested in Artesia in Driver's License Scam

    ARTESIA — A man and woman have been arrested in Artesia for allegedly trying obtain New Mexico driver's licenses using fake documents.
    The state Taxation and Revenue Department, which oversees the Motor Vehicle Division, says the two are believed to be from Brazil.
    MVD Director Ken Ortiz says the man and woman presented fraudulent Brazilian passports and driver's licenses, along with fake IRS documents, vehicle insurance cards and rental agreements. MVD staff then alerted authorities.
    Last week, a criminal complaint was filed against a Brazilian man and a Kazakhstan woman in Albuquerque after federal agents arrested 10 illegal immigrants in an investigation into an alleged smuggling operation involving fake documents to obtain driver's licenses.
