New Mexico Issuing New Secure Driver's Licenses

Associated Press
SANTA FE — Changes are in store as New Mexico begins converting to a new, more secure type of driver's license.
The new licenses are being issued at the Santa Fe office of the Motor Vehicle Division.
The program will gradually be rolled out statewide until all MVD offices are issuing them. That could be by the end of June.
The biggest change for drivers is that they'll leave MVD offices with a temporary license, good for 45 days, until they get a new license in the mail.
State officials say that in the meantime, it's best to carry around your old license and the temporary one for identification.
Officials say they've been informing banks, airlines and other businesses that some New Mexicans will be using the temporary licenses for identification.
