Seven Killed in Palomas Violence; Police Blame Drugs

Associated Press
DEMING — Police say seven men have been killed in Palomas in a turf war among drug cartels in the Mexican border city south of Columbus.
Luna County Sheriff's Department investigator Gary Leyba says 162 gun shells were found were five men were killed Sunday.
He says that according to Mexican authorities, the casings were from assault weapons.
The sheriff's department says another 67 casings were found where a man and his son were fatally shot Friday.
The Mexican government deployed more than 2,500 solders and federal police to the surrounding Chihuahua state in March.
More than 2,500 people have died across Mexico this year in crime and drug-related violence.
