Santa Fe River To Continue Flowing

Associated Press
SANTA FE — The Santa Fe River — sometimes dry, sometimes not — will be flowing for at least another month because of abundant rain.
The city of Santa Fe's Sangre de Cristo Water Division has decided to release water from upstream water reservoirs in Santa Fe Canyon.
The city says the decision to let the river flow is part of a "growing effort to restore the entire Santa Fe River system to a healthy, living channel."
Utility managers plan to keep the water flowing in the river until a total of 200 acre-feet, or 65 million gallons, has been released. In Santa Fe, 200 acre-feet of water provides enough water for about 1,300 households a year.
The city's reservoirs were 85 percent full Friday.
Water division director Gary Martinez says the reservoirs probably will be half full going into next year, and the river will be flowing part of the year.
