Man Enters Plea in Farmington-Area Stabbing Case

Associated Press
FARMINGTON — A man accused of stabbing to death his ex-girlfriend's boyfriend has pleaded guilty to second-degree homicide and residential burglary.
Jason Cohoe of Newcomb was accused of the 2008 stabbing death Alphonzo Benally of Bloomfield.
The 36-year-old Cohoe was identified by name during a 911 call as Benally lay dying.
Under a plea agreement with the San Juan County District Attorney's Office, Cohoe will serve 23 years for the homicide and the charge of residential burglary.
Authorities said that on Nov. 24, 2008, Cohoe forced himself into Benally's home.
With his ex-girlfriend nearby, Cohoe stabbed Benally in the stomach and cut him across the neck with a 7-inch hunting knife.
Cohoe initially told police his ex-girlfriend committed the crime.
