Santa Fe Film Festival Will Discontinue Its Weekly Showings

Journal Staff Report
Financial considerations are ending the films that the Santa Fe Film Festival has been showing weekly, first at Cinemacafe, and more recently at the Jean Cocteau.
Jon Bowman, executive director at the Santa Fe Film Festival, wrote in an e-mail to patrons Wednesday: “To ensure that the Festival can weather the economic firestorm that we see engulfing many worthy arts organizations here and nationally, we will be minimizing our local, year-round operations.”
Bowman continued, “With financial losses being incurred maintaining our Cocteau screenings, we found ourselves in an unsustainable position which would have begun to diminish the new direction and quality of the Festival itself.”
The group will concentrate its energies on the New Mexico Film Expo, a collection of New Mexico-made films that will be shown in September, and the Santa Fe Film Festival, which will run December 2-6.
Occasional benefits also will be sponsored, he wrote.
People interested in volunteering for the December film festival can attend a meeting 6 p.m. Thursday, July 9, in the community room of the Main Library, 145 Washington St.
Volunteer positions include: films screeners, box office, hospitality, party managers, venue managers, film trafficking, projectionists, runners, concessions, merchandise, food and beverage coordinators.
Interested people also can call (505) 998-7414.
