          SFPS Hosts High School Showcase
        Santa Fe Public Schools will host its 2nd annual High School Showcase from 6-8 p.m. Feb. 11 at Alameda Middle School, 450 La Madera St.
        Administrators, teachers and students who attend and work at Capital High School, Career Academy and Santa Fe High School will be present.
        "Showcases" will highlight various programs offered at the three high schools. "This will be our second year to showcase our high schools and to provide insight into the many opportunities available to students, from course work, to programs, to (advanced placement) courses, academic and extracurricular clubs, as well as athletic programs," said Superintendent Bobbie Gutierrez.
        Shoe Donations Sought for Haiti
        Los Alamos residents can donate gently worn shoes for donation to people in Haiti at locations including Village Arts, Los Alamos National Bank and Medical Associates of Northern New Mexico.
        The effort is in conjunction with Soles4Souls Inc., a national charity that gets footwear to people in need.
        Wayne Elsey, founder and CEO of Soles4Souls, said in a statement: "We need our partners in Los Alamos to 'step up' and get behind our call for action. It's one of the most simple yet profound gifts you can make, because it will greatly improve someone's life in the most difficult of times."
        People and companies interested in donating can visit the organization's Web site at www.giveshoes.org.
        Merchants Group Sponsors Benefit
        The Santa Fe Downtown Merchants Association is sponsoring "Hearts & Minds," a Valentine's Day contest with prizes to benefit the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum's education programs.
        Participants need to visit seven of the 10 participating merchants displaying an orange heart and collect proofs of visit, then bring a completed form to the O'Keeffe Museum's gift shop before 5 p.m. Feb. 13. There will be drawings that day for prizes donated by merchants, including a diamond ring, a pearl necklace, a $100 gift card, a dinner and other items.
