Journal Staff Reports
      County Commission Meeting Canceled
Tuesday's meeting of the Santa Fe County Commission was canceled and rescheduled for 2 p.m. Friday.
County spokesman Stephen Ulibarri said the postponement occurred because a newspaper notice for the meeting failed to run when it was supposed to.
Among the items up for discussion by the commissioners is an agreement by the county to provide water to Las Campanas subdivision, as well as expenditure of $1,000 from community funds to support the Pojoaque Valley High School cheerleading team.

$10,000 Grant Used To Buy Recycle Bins
Keep Santa Fe Beautiful received a $10,000 grant from Nestle Waters North America and Keep America Beautiful to purchase recycling containers.
The containers have been placed at Salvador Perez Park, Alto Park, the Municipal Recreation Complex, along the River Walk, The Railyard Park, Frenchy's Park, Fort Marcy Park, Santa Fe Plaza, City Hall and the Transit Division at 2931 Rufina.

       Reducing Waste Workshop Topic
Louise Pape, vice chairwoman of the Sustainable Santa Fe Commission, will present a free workshop, “One Trash Can a Year,” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 107 Barcelona St.
Pape will discuss how you can reduce both your home waste and your environmental footprint. The talk is sponsored by the Northern Group of the Sierra Club.

       Groups Participate In Interfaith Events
To recognize the Parliament of the World's Religions this December in Australia, more than 30 Santa Fe spiritual communities will join together for a week of free public events Oct. 18-25 to build bridges of understanding and friendship.
The event kicks off with a Faith Expo at the Santa Fe Community Convention Center from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday, with exhibits from spiritual communities and vendors. Mayor David Coss will give an opening address at 2 p.m., followed by an interfaith prayer blessing and panel discussion. There will be sacred music, dance, workshops and presentations throughout the day.
Filming will take place for a coming PBS documentary on the “Parliament of the World's Religions,” and on Oct. 25, filmmakers Kell Kearns and Cynthia Lukas will host a screening of “Rumi Returning.”
For a complete schedule, go to www.blessings.org and click on “parliament.”

Mass Bike Ride For Climate Action Day
In observation of the 350.org International Day of Climate Action, Earth Care's Youth Allies organizers will host a mass bike ride from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, departing from the Center for Contemporary Arts, 1050 Old Pecos Trail, to the Roundhouse.
Participants are asked to bring signs with the number 350, or images and messages about climate change, a flag from their country of origin, and to wear green and/or blue.
It is being held in conjunction with the Art Collaborative Vision Shift! headed up by New Energy Economy and a collection of organizations, including Earthworks Institute, Fine Arts for Children and Teens Institute, Santa Fe Place, Warehouse 21, The Museum of Contemporary Native Arts, United World College, UNM Sustainability Course, the Sierra Club and the Institute of American Indian Art. For more information, contact youthallies@earthcare.org or call 699-1025.

       Walk for Breast Cancer Research
In recognition of Breast Cancer Month, the Santa Fe Walk for Breast Cancer Research will be from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday.
To get to the start, take St. Francis south until it ends in a T. Turn right and drive a half-mile. Just before the railroad tracks is a parking lot on the left for the trailhead.
Donations are welcome but not necessary. Checks can be made out to Cedars Sinai Medical Center, Saul and Joyce Brandman Breast Fund.
The walk and donations are in honor of Sharishta Shourie, the 25-year-old daughter of Santa Fe residents Yaniza and Satish Shourie. She is having a double mastectomy Oct. 24 in Los Angeles, where she works for TV station Univision.
Her father is an engineer with Bechtel Corp., who is working on an expansion at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Yaniza, a well-known tennis player in town, started this walk idea among all the tennis players she knows in Santa Fe to raise awareness of breast cancer.
       For further information, call 820-1778.
