          Judgeship Attracts Five Candidates
        Five candidates have applied to fill a newly created judgeship in Santa Fe's 1st District Court.
        They are Katherine A. Basham, Gary D. Elion, Michael R. Jones, Margaret Kegel and Mary L. Marlowe Sommer.
        The District Nominating Commission will meet in public session March 25 at 9 a.m. at the Judge Steve Herrera Judicial Complex, 100 Catron St., to evaluate the applicants. Members of the public can make comments at that time.
        Homeownership Fair on Saturday
        The Santa Fe Association of Realtors is hosting a homeownership fair Saturday at the Santa Fe Place mall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
        The event is intended to provide information on homebuying and -selling as well as how to avoid foreclosure. Participants will also be able to get information on the recently expanded $8,000 federal first-time homebuyer tax credit and the new $6,500 homeowner tax credit. There will also be a drawing for an energy-saving dishwasher.
        The event is open and free to the public. Spanish translators will be available.
        Economic Talk On Climate Change
        Dr. Janie Chermak, a University of New Mexico economics professor, will give a talk on the economic impact of climate change on New Mexico at 7 p.m. March 23 at Santa Fe Prep's auditorium, 1101 Camino de Cruz.
        Chermak will discuss the relative costs of climate change corrective actions versus no action.
        Cops Will Be Out On St. Patty's Day
        The Santa Fe Police Department along with the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Department and the New Mexico State Police will be conducting DWI "saturation patrols" and a DWI checkpoint on Wednesday, St. Patrick's Day, the police agencies announced Monday.
        SFCC Students Show Off Fashions
        Students from Santa Fe Community College's Fashion Design Program are the centerpiece of the Art of Fashion show March 25 at The Lodge at Santa Fe, 750 N. St. Francis Drive.
        A cocktail reception will start at 6:30 p.m., followed by a fashion show of original student designs at 7:30 p.m. The runway show will feature the work of aspiring SFCC designers, including Lynne Kudus, Consuelo Pascual, Rachael Maestas, Bianca Garcia and Paola Palacios. The evening will also feature performances by local DJs.
        The showcase is sponsored in part by BuzzNetworkingABQ, a social and business networking company based in Albuquerque that hosts monthly fashion show events. The event is open to those 21 years and older. General admission is $10, or $5 with SFCC student identification.
