Journal Staff Reports
Northwest Quadrant Hearing at New Spot
The location of the Planning Commission hearing on the Northwest Quadrant scheduled for Thursday has been changed.
Instead of being held in the City Council Chambers, the controversial development will be heard at 6 p.m. in the Santa Fe Community Convention Center, 201 W. Marcy St.

Pink Adobe Hosts 'Wine for a Cause'
The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network will benefit from a fundraiser, “Wine for a Cause,” on June 27 hosted by local chef Johnny Vee.
The event will be held at the Pink Adobe restaurant from 4-7:30 p.m. and will include a wine tasting, hors d'oeuvres, and both a silent and live auction. Tickets are $25 ($18 for members of the hospitality industry) and can be purchased online at www.acscan.org/nmwinetasting or at the restaurant on the day of the event.
Throughout the month leading up to the event, the Pink Adobe restaurant will feature selected wines by the glass with a portion of the sales to benefit ACS CAN, an advocacy affiliate of the American Cancer Society. It advocates for policy and legislation designed to eliminate cancer as a major health problem.
Because donations are used to support lobbying efforts, contributions are not tax deductible.

Drawing for Dump The Pump Day
Thursday is Dump the Pump Day, so to celebrate, Santa Fe Trails will have a drawing on Monday for 25 winners of a monthly bus pass. Riders can ask for a ticket from any bus driver this week.
Sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association, National Dump the Pump Day is designed to encourage people to ride public transportation to save money, protect the environment, reduce dependence on foreign oil, and improve quality of life.
“America is facing a number of significant economic challenges right now,” said Transit Division Director Jon Bulthuis in a news release. “People who use public transportation are helping to answer those challenges for themselves and for their country.
“By participating in Dump the Pump Day, we hope people who have never used Santa Fe Trails will decide to give us a try instead of driving their car,” he said. “We'll be welcoming new riders and thanking our regular riders with special services and benefits.”

       Keep SF Beautiful Winners Announced
Santa Fe residents Rick Martinez and Deanna Einspahr and Los Alamos National Bank are Keep Santa Fe Beautiful's 2009 individual and business of the year.
They and all of the group's volunteers will be recognized at an awards reception Friday at Bishops Lodge. Martinez and Einspahr are longtime participants in Keep Santa Fe Beautiful's twice-a-year community cleanup days. They are among the first to sign up, as well as coordinate neighborhood cleanup activities, said Gilda Montaño, coordinator for Keep Santa Fe Beautiful.
Los Alamos National Bank adopted a traffic median on Paseo de Peralta near its Griffin Street location, and also is the main underwriter of Keep Santa Fe Beautiful's annual silent auction and wine-tasting fundraiser. LANB has supported other KSFB programs, including the annual Golf Classic, she said.
