Journal Staff Reports
Two Men Arrested After Salon Fire
Two men were arrested Monday for their alleged role in an apparent arson of a Santa Fe beauty salon.
Witnesses told police that two men were seen driving away in a truck from A-Viva Salon, 1348 Pacheco Street, after the suspects broke through a window of the business and threw a “small Molotov cocktail” inside, causing extensive damage, according to Santa Fe Police Capt. Gary Johnson.
Pete Lye, 38, and John Schlief, 34, are in custody in connection with the crime.
Police found Schlief in front of a residence on Tesuque Street inside the truck — a Chevy pickup with Hawaiian license plates with a Harley Davidson in the back. Schlief, who police believe was the man who threw the “fire bomb” into the salon, was asleep and holding a hatchet when officers found him inside the pickup, Johnson said.
Police were able to track down the men after the store owner told them that she knew Lye. Johnson said the crime was apparently retaliation in connection with a business dispute with the owner.
Both men face charges of arson and conspiracy to commit arson.

Gov. Bill Richardson appointed a Santa Fe man Monday to the State Investment Council.
Peter B. Frank, a retired certified public accountant, was executive vice president and chief financial officer for Daymon Worldwide Inc., a global marketer of private label goods. He had served 35 years with PricewaterhouseCoopers, with responsibilities including risk management, litigation and business turnarounds. Frank chairs the board of the Chamber Music Festival Foundation and is involved with a number of nonprofit organizations.

       Luján on Green Energy Push
On Wednesday, Rep. Ben Ray Luján, D-N.M., will take part in the groundbreaking of a solar array at the University of New Mexico-Klauer Campus in Taos and hold a Clean Energy Town Hall from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Taos Convention Center, 120 Civic Plaza Drive.
Residents are invited to offer input on what can be done to help build a clean-energy economy.
“Our country's dependence on foreign oil threatens our economy and security,” Luján said in a news release. “With investments in renewable energy, we can create new jobs in a variety of industries across New Mexico.”
