Firm Switching To N.M. Call Center

By Lt. Gov. John Sanchez
Republican, New Mexico
Regarding the UpFront column printed on the front page of last Sunday's Albuquerque Journal titled "Lt. Gov. Sent Work Out Of New Mexico," my family and I have operated Right Way Roofing Inc. continuously for over 28 years and have completed over 30,000 contracts in New Mexico.
We are proud of the fact that we have built one of the most respected and reputable small businesses in the state, having been twice honored as "Small Business of the Year," first in 1993 and again in 2000.
Shortly after being elected lieutenant governor in November, I decided that I would resign my position as president and general manager of the company in order to commit myself to the responsibilities of serving the people of New Mexico. This resignation took place on Jan. 10.
Right Way Roofing spends approximately $100 per month on a phone answering service to ensure that customers have the ability to contact the business after hours, over holidays and when call volume exceeds a certain amount.
The answering service originally hired was a long-time New Mexico business that was subsequently sold to a company in Illinois.
While they maintain their New Mexico contact information, it was discovered that calls made to Right Way Roofing were directed out of state.
The minimal cost of this service has no impact on the number of employees that Right Way Roofing is able to hire.
However, I have passed this information on to the current management and can affirm that going forward, a New Mexico-owned and -operated call service will be employed.
Families are concerned with real job creation, and I remain committed to working with Gov. Susana Martinez, the Legislature and the private sector to help New Mexicans get back to work.
