Travel Writers Bringing the Tourism Bacon Home to N.M.
On Nov. 4, the Albuquerque Journal published a column with the headline “Travel Writer Dines, You Pay.” The article questions why taxpayers are paying for journalists to travel to our state. In his UpFront column, investigative journalist Thom Cole chose to tell only half the story.   (Friday, November 20, 2009)

1 Question, Accountability for All in APS Vote
Since 1993, Albuquerque Interfaith has supported public schools and investing in public education. In 2003, 600 AI leaders demonstrated this support most strongly by knocking on more than 16,000 voters' doors to reverse the previous year's school facilities election loss.   (Friday, November 20, 2009)

Budget Fix Will Take Every Tool
A contractor would not be expected to shore up a collapsing house with a hammer and some nails, and New Mexico's budget-drafters should not be limited in the tools they have available to fix the state's collapsing budget.   (Thursday, November 19, 2009)

Sexist Criticism Deserves Red Card
We find the hubbub surrounding the University of New Mexico soccer player controversy to be both an interesting sociological incident as well as a disturbing example of the current state of sports journalism.   (Thursday, November 19, 2009)

Defibrillators, Training Can Save Lives at the Scene
The sudden death of anyone is always upsetting. The sudden death of someone as beloved and respected as Judge Gene Franchini that ocurred this month in such a public setting makes us all ask what can we do to keep this from happening again. There is no perfect solution, but there are opportunities to improve the odds.   (Wednesday, November 18, 2009)

A Split APS Simply Does Not Add Up
When a small group of West Side activists first proposed carving a boutique school district out of the West Mesa, Cibola and Volcano Vista clusters, I decided to join my three school-age kids in their evening ritual. As they studied for their next day's classes, I did a little homework of my own.   (Sunday, November 15, 2009)

Cap Lawyer Arguments, Get Serious About Carbon Offsets
Two lawyers in San Francisco writing about the economic aspects of cap-and-trade systems ("Carbon Offsets Just a Shell Game," Nov. 7) demonstrate why it's unfortunate that lawyers dictate so much of our governmental policy.   (Sunday, November 15, 2009)

New Mexico Is a Leader in Protecting Wilderness
“Land of Enchantment” was added to New Mexico's license plates in 1941, a nickname that beautifully captures the diversity and richness of our state — the richness of our history and many cultures and the incredible diversity of our landscapes and ecosystems.   (Friday, November 13, 2009)
