Remembering the King
Stories About Kings Were the Best (Saturday, November 21, 2009)
Berry Right To Keep APD on Its Track of Integrity
AS OUR MAYOR-ELECT sets his priorities and assembles his staff, he faces important decisions. Many areas of city government are in need of a new direction. Others have made great progress. Mayor-elect Richard Berry has announced his choice for the city's chief of police and his top deputies. (Friday, November 20, 2009)
UNM Needs To Stop Digging Its Locks Hole
“WE'VE DUG a big hole,” said UNM President David Schmidly. A profound admission of the Locksley saga. However, in the words of Mercutio, from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet: “'tis not so deep as a well, nor so wide as a church-door, but 'tis enough, 'twill serve.” (Friday, November 20, 2009)
Tighten Belts, Cinch in Bloated State Government
HMMM! LET me see. When King Bill took office in 2003, the state parks were open and running, the schools were operating, and the welfare programs were busy spreading the wealth. So what has changed that would require shutting down these programs because of an 8 percent budget cut? (Friday, November 20, 2009)
UNM Brass 1, Good Conduct 0
AS A PARENT of two UNM students and as a UNM alumnus, I am shocked by the conduct of Coach (Mike) Locksley and appalled by the weak reaction by UNM administration to acts of intimidation and violence at the state's flagship institution of higher education. (Thursday, November 19, 2009)
Player Takes Rap for Coach's Bad Behavior
AS AN ALUMNI of UNM, I am disappointed in the lack of support UNM has given Elizabeth Lambert. She is being villainized in the press. … Instead of an indefinite suspension, the school should be giving her unconditional support to help her in the court of public opinion. (Thursday, November 19, 2009)
Lobo Leaders Threw Soccer Player to Wolves
IT IS ILLUMINATING that a student soccer player receives a greater penalty than a grown man, and for a lesser offense. (Thursday, November 19, 2009)
Let Krebs, Lobos Get on With Their Tasks
MY HUSBAND and I chose to be at the Pit Saturday, along with 12,000 fans, to see the first home game for the Lobos' basketball team. Coach Steve Alford, with his bright red jacket, now seems at home as he walked out onto the court. The players, poised and energetic. Even with the draftiness of the Pit under construction, this event is still one of the best venues in town. (Wednesday, November 18, 2009)
More Health Care Regulation Counterproductive
REP. MARTIN HEINRICH needs to take an Economics 101 course. The demand for all the services he promises will make the costs prohibitive. Like other socialist countries the service is free if you have years to wait for it. (Wednesday, November 18, 2009)
Heinrich Health Care Vote Shows His Integrity
THIS HISTORIC Affordable Health Care for America Act would not have passed without the support from members who altruistically voted for it knowing well that this would make their re-election uncertain. (Wednesday, November 18, 2009)
