Opinion: Speak Up!

WHEN I WAS a boy I dug a hole in the back yard for a "fort." My dad didn't think it was a very good idea and handed me a shovel and said, "Now fill it back up." I have a shovel in the garage. The mayor is more than welcome to borrow it. The balloon park hole wasn't a good idea. Now fill it back up. — R.J.B.   (Tuesday, December 02, 2008)

AN ASSAULT rifle is not a sportsman weapon. No civilian needs to own one. Those that have a strong desire to fire one should join the Army. There they will have ample opportunity to fire one, including at live targets. And to make it more exciting, the live targets will be firing back. — J.A.T.   (Tuesday, November 25, 2008)

TO THE religious conservative far right: Don't worry. You are still allowed to worship God the way you have always worshiped. You can chose what you want to do with your own body. You are still free to chose who you want to love. We on the left want the same. We just have a different idea on how to worship God, who we love and when we are ready to bring children in to this world. The freedom to chose is what America is about and something to continue to celebrate. — D.L.C.   (Tuesday, November 18, 2008)

IF THE CITY is looking for increased revenue in these hard economic times, I have a suggestion. Put cameras where the recycle bins are located and fine the people that illegally dump mattresses, toilets, tree limbs, etc. They'd pay for themselves within a month. — P.M.C.   (Tuesday, November 11, 2008)

LET'S RECOGNIZE Manny Aragon's contributions and his downfall by renaming the Torreon “Arrogance.” — P.K.B.   (Tuesday, November 04, 2008)

THAT TIME of year again, so I will ask my usual question: In order to vote one must be a citizen of the U.S. In order to become a citizen one must have a working knowledge of the English language. Why do we have the ballots printed in any other language but English? Have asked this every election; no one seems willing to answer it, especially politicians. — W.J.K.   (Tuesday, October 28, 2008)

HEAR that 28,000 square feet of sod will be installed at Tingley Beach at the mayor's request. Does that mean that the water crisis is over and we homeowners who removed our lawns to conserve water can now replace them? — G.B.   (Tuesday, October 14, 2008)

SURE, LET'S give PNM another 18 percent on top of the 15.4 percent they have already received. This way next year they only need to ask for 66.6 percent to get their 100 percent. Sounds like a deal with the devil. How about we all freeze over then? — J.H.   (Tuesday, September 30, 2008)

HURRICANE HAS passed. Then it was time to rescue those who chose to not heed the mandatory evacuation order. They were warned that if they stayed they may die. That didn't discourage them. Next time, warn them that if they require rescue they'll be expected to pay their share of the total rescue cost. That'll get their attention. — K.M.C.   (Tuesday, September 23, 2008)
