Speak Up!!

I'M SURELY not the only reader who has noticed that the Intelligence Report in Parade Magazine is no longer intelligent. They now deliver tabloid articles that belong in People Magazine. The articles used to be of an expose nature — now it's not a need to know journalism at all. — C.E.
PNM RESOURCES President and CEO Pat Vincent-Collawn received a $1.22 million bonus on top of her salary of $551,635! And former CEO Jeff Sterba still serves as chairman and was paid a combined $1.2 million! These salaries and bonuses are outrageous! — S.A.
THE AMERICAN Dream is no more. The middle class has been disbanded over the past 12 years, women are being put back in their places, education is being de-funded, the sick are being abandoned and now the poor are being returned to the gutters. America will soon become just another Egypt or Libya. — R.G.B.
ACCORDING TO the Journal, 30 percent of APS high school students were habitually truant. Does anyone now not get why our graduation rate is so low? Why are we holding teachers accountable for this? How on earth can teachers teach if the parents don't make their kids go to school? — D.A.K.
FOR THOSE of you tempted to blow your stacks over the archbishop's recent statement regarding homosexuality, keep in mind that he is only doing his job of teaching the institutional Catholic Church's position, not necessarily the teachings of Jesus Christ. Wish that the two would merge more often. — G.S.N.
PROFIT-SHARING, bonuses, tee-time, corporate parties and lunches! Private sector employees earn all these perks plus many more. Good for them they deserve it but stop bashing public sector employees for getting things the private sector doesn't. You're right, we don't! — J.B.
IF YOU WANT the education, pay the increase in tuition and keep your mouth shut. My property taxes go to the schools and I have no children, I keep my mouth shut. Pay up and quit griping, it's your choice. I don't have a choice where my property taxes go. — M.K.
MANY WRITE about the pay for chief executive officers of big corporations, but I have never seen it asked or answered about what leaders of unions make and how they compare to their rank and file. I wonder what the union leaders make. I guess they live better than those that pay their salary. — S.S.
I AM A U.S. Army veteran with 11 years' service retired on a medical disability. The Kenneth Ellis shooting was an unnecessary tragedy and appears the result of an accidental discharge that surprised even the shooting officer. The final decision seems the product of minds denser than Level IVA Kevlar. — S.D.
"ASK NOT WHAT your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country (JFK)" was the mantra of the Democrats' hero. Today, it is obvious that quote is not the case. Today it is, ask what I can get from my country, especially if it is free. — J.E.H.
AS STUDENTS begin state testing, I'd like to challenge all lawmakers and public education employees to take the test. Then maybe they'd quit blaming teachers for low test scores. — V.P.
TALK ABOUT constituent service, I emailed my state senator and ask him to obtain information. In a very timely manner, he picked up the information in Santa Fe and personally delivered it to my home in Albuquerque. Thank you, State Sen. Sander Rue. — B.L.
