More Storms on the Horizon for N.M.

By John Fleck
Journal Staff Writer
A sloppy February in New Mexico is likely to get sloppier, with one and possibly two more storms on the way, according to the National Weather Service.
"It looks like this storm pattern is going to continue until further notice," said Ken Widelski, a forecaster at the National Weather Service's Albuquerque office.
The storm just departing New Mexico brought significant snow to the state's northern mountains, from 2 inches in the Santa Fe metro area to as much as 16 inches at Taos ski area, according to Widelski.
Another storm is expected beginning this evening in southern New Mexico, Widelski said.
The most significant snow from this new storm will hit the mountains north of Silver City in southwestern New Mexico, according to Widelski, with a 20 percent to 30 percent chance of wet weather making it into the Albuquerque metro area and a chance of precipitation all the way to the Colorado border.
That storm will pull out of New Mexico on Thursday evening, and we will have a couple of clear days before yet another storm arrives Saturday night, Widelski said.
