Hospital Planned for Santa Rosa
Journal Staff Report
Work is expected to begin this week on a new $14 million Guadalupe County Hospital in Santa Rosa to replace a vintage 1950s structure.
The new hospital, scheduled to open by June 2011, will expand emergency and trauma services in Santa Rosa, administrator Christina Campos said..
The building also will house a primary care clinic, a public health office and pharmacy. "Patients won't have to run from place to place," she said.
A four-bed emergency room and large trauma room will double the hospital's trauma capacity, Campos said. The hospital also will have 10 patient beds and private rooms.
Guadalupe County Hospital often handles serious traumas from accidents on Interstate 40, Campos said. The county-owned nonprofit hospital has one of two trauma centers on I-40 between Albuquerque and Amarillo, Texas. The other is Dr. Dan C. Trigg Memorial Hospital in Tucumcari.
Funding sources include a hospital reserves and a $9.4 million U.S. Department of Agriculture loan. The builder is Flintco Inc.
The new structure will be at U.S. 54 and Camino de Vida, about two miles from the existing hospital at 535 Lake in Santa Rosa.
