Red or Green? Is Easy — Let's Ask Some Tougher Questions

By Jennifer Huard
For the Journal
Have you heard of the game Would You Rather? It's a board game in which each person takes a turn answering a question starting with "Would you rather...?"
The game asks questions like, "Would you rather meet Jesus or Elvis?" "Would you rather have a missing finger or an extra toe?" "Would you rather eat a live maggot or discover you have just eaten one by mistake?"
The game is meant for the players to ponder serious and mostly silly questions, and at the end have to make a decision and choose one answer.
Would you rather get three great Christmas presents or 10 mediocre ones?
Wouldn't it be a hoot to put a local spin on the game and make the questions a little more familiar? The trick is, you have to make a choice. Here we go.
Would you rather eradicate political corruption in New Mexico, or have no state income tax?
Would you rather get a year's worth of free car washes or a year's worth of free breakfasts at Wecks?
Would you rather have a Trader Joe's at the corner of Southern Boulevard and N.M. 528 or as part of a retail development at the City Center?
Would you rather have all of the dirt roads in the city paved at no cost to residents or get free Wi-Fi throughout the city?
Would you rather allow married-couple benefits to nonmarried partners, or have your children's health insurance doubled?
Would you rather pay a .01 cent tax for a spay/neuter program for our state's dogs and cats, or pay a .01 cent tax to kill the overpopulation every year?
Would you rather pay four times your current annual automobile registration fee and have another bridge built over the river to alleviate the horrible gridlock, or put that money into drunken driving campaigns and stiffer penalties?
While we ponder whether we would rather have the ability to fly or be invisible, I ask you one last question: Would you rather see the Colts or the Saints win the Superbowl?
Quote of the Week: "It is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities." — J.K. Rowling, author
