Rio Rancho Public Schools will begin registration for the 2010-11 school year this month. High school and middle school students return Aug. 12. Elementary students will have pretesting Aug. 12-13 by appointment and begin classes Aug. 17.
Parents who do not know which school their children should attend can check rrps.net, or call the district transportation office at 338-0078, ext. 100.
Students enrolling in kindergarten must be 5 by Sept. 1.
Documentation
The following documents are required for students new to the district:
• Original birth certificate issued by a state or municipality (not by a hospital)
• Immunization records
• Proof of residency (current utility bill, rent receipt or purchase agreement; some schools require two forms of proof of residency)
• Court documents pertaining to guardianship, if applicable
• Copy of student's current Individualized Education Plan (IEP), if applicable
• High school transcripts (high school)
Returning students at all schools should provide the following:
• Updated immunization records/medication information
• Transcripts from summer school or correspondence classes, if applicable
• Current contact information: phone numbers, addresses, parents' work location(s), phone number(s) and cell phone number(s), parents' e-mail address and emergency contact number(s) for someone other than the parents. This information will be used to reach parents through the district's notification system if there is an emergency.
Immunizations
The required immunizations are as follows:
• DTP, DTaP, Td (Diphtheria/Tetanus/Pertussis): Four doses and at least one must be given on or after the child's fourth birthday. A three-dose original series is sufficient if immunization starts at age 7.
• Td/Tdap (Tetanus/Diphtheria booster): Required for students entering the seventh- through ninth-grades if five or more years have passed since their last tetanus-containing vaccine. Required for 10th- through 12th-grade students if 10 or more years have passed since their last tetanus-containing vaccine. A shot is encouraged if five or more years have passed.
• Polio (OPV, IPV, or any combination of the two): Three doses are sufficient if all IPV or all OPV are used and the last dose is administered on or after the fourth birthday. If all three doses were administered before age 4, or the child received a combination of IPV and OPV, a fourth dose administered after age 4 is required. Regardless of age, four or more doses with a minimum of 28 days between each dose is acceptable.
• MMR (Measles/Mumps/Rubella): A measles-containing virus vaccine can substitute for one of the MMRs. Two doses, the first administered on or after the child's first birthday and the second administered at least 28 days after the first. Administration of the second dose on/after the child's fourth birthday is recommended.
• Hepatitis B: Three doses with a minimum of four months between the first and third dose. If a child is receiving immunization for the first time and is 11-15 years old, two-dose Recombivax HB vaccine is valid if second dose is administered at least 16 weeks after the first dose.
• Varicella (Chickenpox): Grades kindergarten through six only. Students entering kindergarten need two doses on or after their first birthday with at least 28 days between first and second dose. Students in grades one through six need one dose. Or, for all grade levels, written proof child is immune or has had the disease (preferably medical or laboratory record).
Required for preschool students only
• Haemophilus Influenza type B (Hib): Three doses with one after the child's first birthday or one dose between 16 months and 5 years old.
• Hepatitis A: One dose required by 18 months; two are recommended with at least six months between doses
