Pet's Fatal Shooting Being Investigated
Rio Rancho police are investigating the death of a dog found fatally shot Monday morning at its home on 14th Street SE.
According to a Rio Rancho police report, the dog's owner said he had put his 3-year-old blue heeler named Pepper in his backyard about 10 p.m. Sunday.
The man told police that about 8:30 Monday morning he went into his backyard and found Pepper dead, the report says. He said he found two puddles of the dog's blood in the yard and Pepper in a shaded area.
He said that the dog had a small bullet wound on the left front side of its chest and that the bullet exited on the right side near its rib area, according to the report. The man said he did not hear anything suspicious Sunday night and did not know anyone who might want to hurt Pepper.
Police spoke with several neighbors who "appeared to be shocked" over the incident, the report says. They told police that they also did not hear anything Sunday night.
Sandoval County Regional dispatch reported there had been no calls with complaints about the dog, the report says.
Anyone with information is asked to call Rio Rancho police at 891-7226.
Police Find Nothing After Bomb Threat
Rio Rancho police responded to a bomb threat Tuesday morning at V. Sue Cleveland High School, which is under construction off Paseo del Volcan.
Sandoval County Regional dispatch received a call from an unknown male regarding a bomb "at the high school," according to Rio Rancho police Lt. Noel Adams.
Police officers initially responded to Rio Rancho High School and cleared the school and secured the campus. Students attending football and band practices were at the high school at the time, Adams said.
A short time later, police learned from dispatch that the bomb threat was for Cleveland, according to Adams. Police responded to the high school and cleared construction workers at the site.
Police did a sweep of the site from about 7 to 9 a.m., according to Adams. No suspicious packages or explosive devices were found.
