APD: Couple Hurt Themselves To Get Meds

Journal Staff Report
An Albuquerque couple could face charges of lying to police after they allegedly faked a home invasion as part of an effort to get prescription drugs, APD spokeswoman Nadine Hamby said.
The couple have not been named because they have yet to be charged, Hamby said.
Police responded to the couple's home on the 1500 block of Casa Florida NW around 11 p.m. Tuesday, she said. They told police they had been robbed Tuesday evening and once before about a week ago.
The man had been shot in the leg, Hamby said, and the woman had been stabbed.
As it turned out, the couple had tried twice during the evening to get prescription drugs from a pharmacist, she said. Both times they were unsuccessful, so they concocted a scheme to get drugs.
The man had shot himself in the leg and had either stabbed his wife or she had stabbed herself, Hamby said.
Their plan was to say their drugs had been stolen and to get more drugs for their injuries, which in the end were not life-threatening.
