Journal Staff Report
The bicyclist struck by a car as he crossed a street Thursday afternoon remained in stable condition Friday at an Albuquerque hospital, according to police.
The 39-year-old Rio Rancho man was riding east on a bike path along Southern Boulevard and crossing Sally Circle when he was struck by a sedan turning onto Sally, according to Rio Rancho Fire Rescue battalion chief Paul Bearce.
The man, who was not wearing a helmet, hit the sedan's windshield and suffered multiple traumatic injuries, Bearce said.
He was taken to the University of New Mexico Hospital where he was in stable condition on Friday, according to Rio Rancho police spokesman John Francis.
Four females were in the sedan at the time of the accident, according to Bearce. None of them was seriously hurt.
The driver, a 17-year-old female from Rio Rancho, was driving without a license, Francis said.
Rio Rancho police are investigating the accident.
Possible citations are pending against the driver, Francis said.
Police did not release the man's or driver's name on Friday pending completion of their investigation and contact of the man's family.
