Author Returns With a Sequel to Her Hugely Popular Novel
From Journal Reports
Albuquerque native and successful novelist Alisa Valdes Rodriguez is among the authors slated to appear at Bookworks this week.
The North Valley bookstore at 4022 Rio Grande NW will welcome Valdes Rodriguez with a free virgin margarita party at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Valdes Rodriguez is touring in support of her newest book, "Dirty Girls on Top." In the novel, the author reunites the six women she first introduced in her popular 2003 book, "The Dirty Girls Social Club."
Valdes Rodriguez, who studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston and earned her master's degree in journalism from Columbia University, has now written five novels. Named one of "Time Magazine's" 25 most influential Hispanics in America, Valdes Rodriguez is in negotiations for a feature film version of "The Dirty Girls Social Club."
In other upcoming Bookworks events, Sharman Apt Russell will be at the store at 11 a.m. Sunday to discuss her newest book, "Standing in the Light: My Life as a Pantheist."
Russell's previous books include "Hunger, An Obsession with Butterflies" and "Songs of the Fluteplayer."
Daniel Abraham, author of "An Autumn War," will talk and sign copies of his book at 7 p.m. Thursday at Bookworks.
The store will also host the Black & White & Red Ball at 10 p.m. Friday to celebrate the release of "Breaking Dawn." The book is the fourth in the "Twilight" series by author Stephenie Meyer.
Festivities will include live music by Shoot My Cupid, costume contests for those dressed like "Twilight" characters, trivia, classic vampire movies and prizes.
Those who pre-purchase vouchers for the event get a place in line for the release party.
There will also be free psychic readings for a limited number of people who buy the vouchers.
