Watching hefty Saint Louis coach, Rick Majerus, make the long jaunt up the Pit ramp on Saturday — both at halftime and post game — brought back plenty of memories of his 15 seasons at Utah.
It was also painful.
“I’m not kidding, he barely made it up at the half,” one UNM worker told me. “I didn’t know what we were going to do if he couldn’t get up.”
Watching Majerus F-bomb the heck out of the official timekeeper late in the game, when about three seconds ran off, put this thought in my head:
Thank God, they didn’t have a false fire alarm during the game, like they did during each of the last two Pit games and have had four times since last year’s renovation.
Imagine Majerus having to make an extra trip up and down that ramp because of a Pit boo-boo?
Pit officials would have rather had an A-bomb hit the place than Majerus’ F-bombs.
EVERYONE’S A LOBO: On Monday, Lobo fans were still talking about Majerus’ post-game comments about New Mexico. He was simply cooing over the fans.
“People here appreciate ball,” Majerus said. “There’s a great tradition here. We went to eat at a place the other night. Pinto Bean or whatever it is (El Pinto), and I asked the gal, ‘Who’s your favorite Lobo?’ And everyone here has a favorite Lobo. Hers was Kenny Thomas. She didn’t know much about ball. But like guys in the bar, the (Lobos) are like the Lakers in these areas. That’s good for them. Everyone applauds that.”
