AROUND THE STATE

ISLETA LAKES: Fishing at both SUNRISE and TURTLE lakes has been very good, with limits being reported. Best baits have been Salmon Peach, Garlic, White and Nymph PowerBaits, salmon eggs and red wigglers. Another stocking of trout will occur this week. At this writing the lakes are clear of ice. For up-to-date lake conditions, call 505-244-8102. Carlos Trujillo, game warden

NAVAJO LAKE: Fishing for northern pike is good in the main channel off the points with large soft swim bait and Rapalla crank bait. Warm winter weather is allowing for a wonderful fishing experience for both rainbow and brown trout on the quality waters of the SAN JUAN RIVER. On bait waters, fishing is good for brown and rainbow trout using worms and flies. Shanna Reed, marine enforcement officer

NOTES from GAME & FISH: EAGLE NEST LAKE has 16-17 inches of ice. Fishing is fair for yellow perch and rainbows with PowerBait and salmon eggs. The weather has been cold and windy, but most fish are being caught by the boat dock and north access.

Ice is 9-13 inches thick at LAKE MALOYA. PowerBait and salmon eggs have been catching 6- to 13-inch rainbow trout. Fishing is poor at LAKE ALICE due to thin ice and the lake has not been stocked.

Fishing has been slow below the hatchery on the RED RIVER, but some rainbows and browns are being caught.

At TINGLEY BEACH, fishing is fair to good with the ponds being stocked almost every week. Garlic PowerBait appears to be the best for catching fish this week for the kids and central ponds. Anglers are still reporting catching big fish in the catch and release pond using bunny leaches.

Trout fishing at OASIS STATE PARK LAKE is good on a variety of baits. The lake was stocked with 823 trout two weeks ago.

Fishing on the RIO RUIDOSO should improve with stocking of 625 rainbow trout last week.

Most of the streams in the JEMEZ are frozen and covered with snow.

Ice fishing at BLUEWATER LAKE is reported as good, with the northern part of the lake having 10 inches of ice. Trout are being caught on corn and salmon eggs.
