Sunday: Stephen Fife pitched seven dominant innings, Alex Castellanos hit a mammoth two-run homer to center field, and the ’Topes rolled to a 9-5 win over Iowa in front of 9,231 fans at Isotopes Park.
Fife (8-5) allowed one run, scattered four hits and struck out 12 without permitting a walk. RBI doubles by Elian Herrera, Castellanos and Matt Angle helped Albuquerque build a 6-1 lead after seven innings. Castellanos finished 3-for-5 as the home team collected 14 hits. Iowa had six hits to go with 14 strikeouts.
Josh Vitters’ three-run homer off reliever Erick Threets pulled the I-Cubs within 6-4 in the eighth. But Trent Oeltjen’s solo homer sparked a three-run Isotopes rally in the bottom of the frame, securing Albuquerque’s third straight win.
